A managed sub-assembly process from components to verified units

Our sub-assembly capability spans the range of complexity found in switchgear, power distribution, green hydrogen, industrial mobility, network and data centre applications from straightforward multi-component contact arrangements through to integrated assemblies involving mechanical actuation, insulation systems, and multiple plated and machined elements.

Contact Arrangements

Machined contact bodies, plated surfaces, and spring components brought together into verified electrical contact sub-assemblies.

Insulated Sub-Assemblies

Conductive components integrated with insulation systems, with correct clearance and creepage distances maintained throughout assembly.

Actuator Sub-Assemblies

Mechanical actuation components including springs, levers, and linkages assembled into units that integrate directly with switching products.

Plated Component Assemblies

ETP copper components combined with silver or tin plated contact surfaces for superior oxidation resistance and extended service life.

Fastened and Torqued Joints

Multi-component assemblies with bolted joint integrity verified at defined stages throughout the assembly process.

Prototype and Development Assemblies

Low-volume and one-off sub-assemblies for new product development, built to the same standards as production units.
02_ How We Work

Full supply chain ownership, from components to finished sub-assembly

MSS controls the supply of every component entering the sub-assembly process. Whether sourced from our own manufacturing operations in India and Poland or from approved external suppliers, all components are inspected against specification before they enter the assembly line.

Component supply and control

All components whether manufactured in-house or sourced externally are inspected and traceable before entering production. Material certificates, dimensional records, and supplier qualification documentation are maintained as standard.

Assembly and Integration

Our assembly operations combine skilled manual build with semi-automated processes where appropriate, delivering consistent, repeatable results at both prototype and production scale. Critical parameters including torque values, contact pressures, and dimensional requirements are verified at defined stages throughout assembly.

Testing and Quality Assurance

Completed sub-assemblies are inspected and tested to the product type and customer requirements. This may include dimensional verification, torque checks, insulation testing, dielectric strength verification, and functional performance checks. All assemblies are engraved with a unique identifier, providing full traceability from raw material through to final delivery.

Packaging and Despatch

Custom packaging is used to protect sub-assemblies during transit, preventing contamination and mechanical damage. Eco-friendly packaging options are available. Global delivery is supported through our warehousing hubs in Europe, the UK, Ireland , Poland, France, USA, and India.

Tulip Cluster Assemblies

A high-volume tulip assembly programme transferred to MSS from a customer's in-house production facility. MSS took ownership of the full supply chain from sub-contractor vetting through to testing and quality assurance. 60,000 assemblies produced in one year, with 11% savings for the customer and 5 weeks of working capital released.

DC Disconnector Assembly programme

A customer manufacturing disconnector assemblies in-house transferred production to MSS. We took ownership of design, development, and material sourcing and supplied 15,000 units meeting all technical requirements at lower cost and faster lead time. 13% savings for the customer, with 5 weeks of working capital released.

Yes. We regularly support customers in transferring sub-assembly programmes from in-house production or existing suppliers, taking full ownership of component supply, assembly, testing, and quality assurance.

Does MSS support both prototype and production volumes?

Yes. We build prototype and development sub-assemblies to the same quality standards as production units, making the transition from prototype to volume production straightforward.

What quality documentation is provided with sub-assemblies?

All sub-assemblies are supplied with documentation covering raw material traceability, dimensional inspection records, and test results appropriate to the product type. Assemblies are engraved with a unique identifier for full traceability.

What testing is carried out on sub-assemblies?

Testing is specified to the product type and customer requirements. It may include dimensional verification, torque checks, insulation testing, dielectric strength testing, and functional performance checks.

What types of sub-assembly does MSS produce?

We produce a broad range of electrical contact and mechanical sub-assemblies including contact finger arrangements, insulated assemblies, actuator sub-assemblies, plated component assemblies, and fastened joint assemblies. We work from customer-supplied drawings or in collaboration with our engineering team where design input is needed.
